Your gift matters

Support from our alumni and friends helps ensure our continued leadership in the field of STS and also enriches teaching, learning, and research at Stanford about the social and historical context of science and technology in the United States and across the globe.

Giving

Why support the Program in Science, Technology, and Society?

Our faculty teach Stanford students how science, technology, and medicine shape human societies, both now and in the past. At the same time, students explore how history, governments, economies, cultures, and human psychology shape science and technology. We believe that an understanding of these intricate dynamics – beyond simple preoccupation with “innovation” – as well as the ethical, political, and social implications of modern medicine, artificial intelligence, data-intensive social media, and the host of other developments currently transforming human futures is an essential part of being a responsible citizen today and promoting a better future.

Your foresight will

  • Equip the next generation of scholars and citizens through courses, academic events, and research opportunities.
  • Fund STS teaching assistantship opportunities for graduate students.
  • Support innovative faculty research and scholarship.
  • Develop new initiatives for the Program in Science, Technology, and Society at Stanford to address various emerging societal challenges.
