Teaching Assistantship Opportunities

The Program in Science, Technology, and Society offers teaching assistantship opportunities for currently enrolled Stanford doctoral students from any department. STS is a dynamic interdisciplinary undergraduate major with affiliated faculty from over a dozen departments. Each academic year, teaching assistant opportunities are available for the following courses:

STS 1: Introduction to Science, Technology & Society

  • 1 quarter
  • .50 FTE, 20 hours per week
  • Each STS 1 TA leads two discussion sections
  • This is a gateway course for STS majors

STS 191W: Doing STS: Introduction to Research

  • 1 quarter
  • .25 FTE, 10 hours per week
  • This is a Writing in the Major course

  • Requires strong writing and editing skills

STS Capstone Courses (200 level)

  • 1 quarter
  • .25 FTE, 10 hours per week
  • Multiple capstone courses are offered each year
  • The capstone course is the culminating experience for seniors

STS Honors Program TA

  • 3 quarters (autumn, winter, spring)
  • .25 FTE, 10 hours per week

  • TA works closely with Honors Program students throughout the academic year

  • Requires strong writing, editing and mentoring skills
