Alumni Career Panel Advice Soothed Frayed Job Search Nerves

Jessica Seng, Bec Smith, Axella Talma

On February 18,  our panel featuring three STS '20 alums shared stories and strategies for pandemic career building. Hailing from a variety of industries and career pathways, they shared their journeys after STS and Stanford including how they navigated searching for a job during a pandemic and how they pitched STS to interviewers. Our audience engaged them in a lively discussion about researching companies, and the importance of requesting 15-20 minute meetings to learn about possible career paths. Key takeaways were: stay in touch with your faculty mentors, beef up your LinkedIn and don’t worry so much! Most companies are hiring you for your aptitude and potential; that’s why they have onboarding and training.

Stanford has outstanding job search resources to help you. Check out BEAM,  SAM (Stanford Alumni Mentoring), Cardinal Careers and Stanford Handshake.
Stay in touch with STS; we would love to hear how things are going!
