Bec Smith

Bec Smith

Bec is a senior from Houston who started out thinking he was going to study Biomedical Computation. Soon after he switched to Computer Science and was studying Human-Computer Interaction until his 3rd year. Bec was introduced to STS by peer advisors and has been hooked ever since. He self-designed a concentration that combines all of his interests in computer science, psychology, ethics, feminist and gender studies, race and ethnic studies, and disability studies. STS gave him the unique opportunity to explore all of his interests while working to be a computer scientist who is educated on the social, political, economic, cultural, and environmental impacts of the work being done in Silicon Valley and around the world. Talk to him about activism on campus, taking ASL for your language requirement, playing on the Stanford Men’s Rugby Team, or anything else you can think of! :-)
