Alanna Reyes
I am back in school as a Ph.D. student at UC San Diego's department of Communication with a minor in Science Studies. I am in my first year, and just gave my first conference talk titled "Press Start: Intersectionality, Digital Games, and Identity." In addition to tracing the societal impact of video games, I am also interested in studying assistive technology for people with physical disabilities, as well as the design of chemistry laboratory science classes at the undergraduate level. My STS background is incredibly helpful as I traverse these fields because it gave me a head-start to my Ph.D with a familiarity of both chemistry and the history of science. It was the perfect preparation for the interdisciplinary study that I am interested in, and the rigor of the Stanford STS program definitely prepared me for graduate level discussions and writing.
